Le Goût – Etude 1.4

The Mouth: Organ of Myth

The Mouth: Organ of Myth

At the entrance of the cave, everything seems peaceful and comfortable.

Limpid air rushes without fear into the murky lair,

disappearing, and then reappearing, delicately warmed, and creamy.

The ground is soft and the walls are slick and shiny

radiating a sweet and reassuring heat.

The jaws close; the walls move and distort,

revealing a polymorphous essence.

The glutton engulfs and delivers its prey

to its thousand starving heads

which indulge without permission in the banquet.

Satiated and bloated, they vanish peacefully,

sleeping nestled in their magic grotto.

The camouflage is perfect.

Study 1.4 elucidates a baroque universe: velvets the color of warm honey, intense pigments of a luxurious jungle. Lulled by this salty-sweet indolence, we’re exposed to the hidden danger which strikes before we’re able to flee. This is the junction between desire and danger.
